Dan Hazlett
MA MFT
Dan comes to Renew with his calling of bringing hope and healing to individuals, marriages, and families. Clients have shared that they feel understood, safe, freer, accepted, and more confident when working with him. You will find Dan leaning in with curiosity to make sense of the problem and get to the root issue. Dan focuses on attachment styles, trauma, generational patterns, survival, and fears which he believes are deeply rooted in a person’s story. He has a heart not only for supporting couples, but also ministers, military, leaders, and men who have shame, sexual addiction, substance abuse in remission, self-esteem & identity issues, and relationship challenges.
Dan has a background in packaging design and led a team in the corporate world. This led him to be certified as a speaker/trainer/coach with the John Maxwell team. He left the corporate world after being asked by his supportive wife: what would he want to do with his life… money aside. This question led him to pursue more meaning in his work, becoming a job coach and case manager for inner city youth where he discovered his gift of counseling. Dan then graduated from Montreat University in NC with a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. He has a passion for spiritual formation and helping others identify the lies, beliefs, agreements, and wounds that create and perpetuate distress. He strongly aligns with scripture and Jon Eldredge’s Wild at Heart Ministry. With this passion, Dan created a 10-week group curriculum called The Refuge Workshop which was created for churches and is currently a part of Akron’s Haven of Rest program.
When not counseling, he loves spending time with his children and beloved wife. Dan enjoys being outdoors anytime he can with hammocking, camp fires, hiking, and loves all things with an engine! He is active in his community and supports his church as an elder.
