Devalon (Dev) believes that counseling is an opportunity to walk alongside people as they discover healing, hope, and a deeper understanding of themselves. Many years ago, she believes God placed a calling on her life to walk alongside others in their healing. Although that calling stayed with her, she came to realize that before she could fully step into it, she needed to allow God to do healing work in her own life. That journey has shaped the counselor she is becoming and has given her a deep compassion for those carrying pain, shame, self-doubt, guilt, and trauma. Before entering the counseling profession, Dev spent many years as a middle and high school teacher. Her experience working with children and adolescents fostered a passion for creating spaces where young people feel safe, understood, and valued. She is especially drawn to working with children and adolescents, as well as women who are processing trauma, self-doubt, guilt, shame, and struggles with self-worth. She enjoys incorporating creativity, expressive arts, and play into counseling when appropriate, believing that sometimes clients can express through creativity what they may not yet have words to say. Faith is an important part of Dev’s life and counseling approach. She believes that emotional, relational, physical, and spiritual well-being are deeply connected. When clients desire it, she values creating space for faith and spirituality to be part of their counseling journey. She strives to approach each client with compassion, grace, empathy, and acceptance while honoring their individual experiences, beliefs, and goals.
Outside of counseling, Dev is a wife and mom of five. She enjoys spending time outdoors, drinking coffee, watching birds, drawing/journaling and spending time with her family. She especially loves watching birds in flight, as their movement and freedom serve as a reminder of hope and possibility. She also has two dogs, Kasih, a Goldendoodle whose name means “love” in Indonesian, and Willow, a three-year-old Bernadoodle.
